Part of keeping one’s self healthy is eating the right kinds of food without compromising good nutrition. We all know that eating junk food and fast food is bad for the health. These types of diet won’t only make you gain weight but also increase your cholesterol levels. So when we say proper or good nutrition, we actually refer to the intake of all the food in the pyramid moderate amounts. This also goes without saying that eating greasy food items or those that are cooked in fat (as in deep-frying) such as fries, fried chicken and hamburgers isn’t recommended. You might ask, “So how can we eat chicken or potatoes if we won’t fry it?” Well, there are a lot of other cooking methods and styles that you can opt for. For instance, why not enjoy barbecues?
Barbecuing is not only a popular cooking method but it is also considered a part of our culture. It involves the cooking of food in its own juices over low heat. Nowadays, there are charcoal and gas grills available in the market that we can use for barbecues.
Anyway, if you are looking for healthy barbecue recipes, you won’t have to search far anymore. Let me share two suggestions that you’ll really love!
- Grilled Salmon Burgers
Instead of red meat, why not grill salmon for your sandwich? Get a quarter pound of salmon and put it in a food processor. Add some mustard and rind then process the ingredients until smooth. Add ¾ pound of salmon into the mixture and pulse it until the salmon is chopped. Add some shallots, tarragon, salt and pepper. Make patties and grill for about two minutes on each side.
Get a bowl and combine sugar, honey, olive oil, garlic, basil, saffron, thyme, basil, cayenne pepper, oregano, salt, sage and parsley. Stir the ingredients thoroughly and then pour this marinade onto your boneless chicken breasts. Let the meat stay soaked in the marinade for at least 20 minutes. Grill for about 10 minutes per side.
